weekend.

Happy first fall weekend? Mine was!

CURE's Quiet Heroes luncheon was on Saturday. My other mother, Mrs. Gearon was this year's invited speaker with a well-deserved standing ovation from a speech that left everyone with teary eyes.  She's been a special person in my life, but to see her touch so many other people the way she did within minutes  was indescribable.

So after an emotionally draining morning, I was dropped off at Music Midtown for an afternoon and evening of barefoot dancing in Piedmont Park.  And, I got to go with some of my favorite people–the Bailey twins from high school (Joe goes to Southern Cal and went to Bonnaroo one year and Kinman goes to UGA with me)  and Gabs (who I met in South Africa)!!

Happy Fall

This morning was the autumnal equinox! I am so, so excited! There's nothing quite like the sound of crunchy leaves underfoot, and the taste of freshly baked pumpkin goodies. Fall is the time of sweaters, apples, halloween costumes, pretty colors, cool air, leaf piles... oh so much fun.

I love this checklist that I found and really want to be able to check all of the activities.

does the pope shit in the woods?

{Apparently he was witnessed doing the deed at Woodstock in 1969 during Jimi Hendrix's National Anthem where he ecclesiastically exulted a Biblical flood of excreta whilst amid a heavily wooded area, putting to shame all other fecal works of great holy pontiffs.}

Ok, but on a slightly more serious note, pooping in the woods can be absolutely terrifying and seemingly impossible for some poor souls.  You can try methods like these:

And my own helpful hint: if you just can't go, try "the squat" standing on your toes; gets things going.

But I just found this {click here} great article that you woods-poopers and toilet-seekers alike. Happy reading!

funday quote

In case you didn't already know this, I'm taking a jazz improv class thanks to Sam. It is one of the hardest things I've ever done. I die a little bit every time I walk in the room.  But hopefully I'll become a pianist and learn lots about music and jazz. By the end of the semester, I have to play Miles Davis' solo in "So What"... I'll let you know how that one goes...

Ok, so I'm also a bit of a dreamer. I dream about things like:

"We are the makers of music, and the dreamers of dreams"
- Willy Wonka

What music do you make? What dreams do you dream?

some inspiration

Need some inspiration on this lovely Saturday afternoon? Check out this guy: Craig DeMartino.

Craig is missing his right leg below the knee.  He fell from 100 feet up Sundance Buttress and landed with an extensive list of injuries that would cause normal people to quit climbing or even living: amputated leg, fused vertebrae, broken neck, chronic pain.  Sure he parks in the best spot at the grocery store with a blue tag hanging from his rear-view mirror, but he also climbs way harder than you can.

So don't go complaining... and count your blessings!

HBD

So my mom is awesome. Duh. We travel. go to farmers markets. walk in the woods. laugh. cry. sleep in tents. swim (sometimes naked). wander. and love.

And, today's her birthday!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM!!!

9/11

Hard to believe it's been 10 years since 9/11.  Remember what your day looked like?
I loved seeing the life-size polaroids of firefighters and men in uniform in NYC last weekend.  That new museum is going to be so cool!
Check out this commercial I just saw:

ironically, this photo was taken outside the law library....

I don't think we have to fear about turning into a medieval study hall too soon...

it's saturday in athens

Saturday in Athens means craziness with a little football thrown in!
So we had our first home game after a loss last weekend to Boise State. Unfortunately, today was another L on the record :(  45–42 vs. USC

But football game means tailgate...

we made some australian friends...   :)

bffls!

4th quarter

But losing luckily doesn't completely bring down Bulldawg Nation.  Athens was absolutely crazy!  And the town was absolutely covered in all things red and black.

A highlight? So, I was driving people Friday night (no, that's certainly not the highlight) and got to catch up with some South African friends! then hang out John (old boss from american mountain who now lives in asheville)!!!! and then proceeded to give a belligerently drunk graduate a ride home. [No, I have no idea who he was/is but he was in town reliving the glory days.]  I gave him a ride simply as a good deed. But when he got out, he gave me a wad of money– 2 fifties, 1 ten, and 9 ones.... $119!?!?! what?! I was making bank instead of waking up broke on Saturday morning! Awesome.

burning man

Most of you probably know this- but I have a bucket list. Yes, a physical, numbered list.  Well one of the items on that list is to go to Burning Man Festival.
What is burning man?

taken straight from their website:

What Is Burning Man?

Once a year, tens of thousands of participants gather in Nevada's Black Rock Desert to create Black Rock City, dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. They depart one week later, having left no trace whatsoever.Burning Man is also an ever-expanding year-round culture based on the Ten Principles.

What Isn't Burning Man?

Burning Man isn't your usual festival, with big acts booked to play on massive stages. In fact, it's more of a city than a festival, wherein almost everything that happens is created entirely by its citizens, who are activeparticipants in the event.

bored?

Yes, I often find random bits of entertainment on the interweb.  Thought I'd share some biking ones today...

today's horoscope

I love my horoscope today. So true!!  I feel like I've been running, running, running since I've moved back to Athens.  But now I'm home and hopefully home for a bit longer this time...

Where did summer go? And what happened to a “leisurely Labor Day weekend”? You’ve lost your ability to chill, and lately you’ve shifted into workaholic mode. What’s that about, Sag?
Slow down and have a little faith in the universe.
