the family's in town

the lovely Winborne ladies

watch out! he's on the loose

Nate just had to look at all the menus. at once

Trapeze's cool tin bar

of course we had to stop for the flowers
So sweet and pretty!

the bouncy ball course and the yummy cranberry pecan bread

beautiful and delicious tofu scramble

My beautiful weekend began with a wonderful yoga class and fun with friends, followed by some much appreciated family time.  We enjoyed the perfect weather, ate lots of good food (Trapeze-go try their sweet potato fries! and Big City Bread), laughed, and had a family slumber party in the hotel with the typical course of action- dad stinking up the entire place, nate not packing enough clothes, and wrestling.

mickey d's oatmeal

Did you know that McDonald's oatmeal contains more sugar than a Snickers bar?  And only 10 fewer calories than a McDonald's cheeseburger or Egg McMuffin?  Check out this article by Mark Bittman on how McDonald's succeeds and screwing up oatmeal.

love is all we need

I hate Valentine's Day.  Sorry, but I just think it's a waste.  We should love each other 365 days (or 366 on leap years)!
And come on, what happens to all those poor flowers and roses (ew) that don't get sold?  You never see florist departments turn people away because they've 'run out.'  And, how about all that money spent on stupid Hallmark cards?!
So, instead of being a total hater, I decided to use this 'special' day to thank some people I love in my life!  (Maybe it was also to procrastinate my homework all week.)  I cut up cereal boxes and some magazines that keep coming to my mailbox to create Valentines!  Here are a few:

I just couldn't resist

Every year, for the past 10 years, we go to Dante's for Valentine's dinner as a family.  And yes, Erika is part of our family.

Nate DESTROYED our sauces! thanks
misbehaving as usual...
aren't we cute?!

the 'main men' showing off their card

"Happy Valentines Day!!!!!
From your main men
Nate Dawg & Link/Big Rich
(No chocolates. no flowers. no thongs)
You get our LOVE"

This weekend I went to the Southeast Youth Food Activist Summit.  They were looking for volunteers and I was willing and able.  What a great experience to come together with students from all over the Southeast to talk together, eat great food together, and learn together firsthand from people in the Real Food industry!

Saturday was full of discussions like this one led by CDC foodie, Katherine Reddy
Real Food Now!

I will post pictures from the weekend later!

ski beech

early early departure

ski lift for ants
night skiing

beech mountain = shit show

fog rolling up the valley

what a joke

I spent last weekend with GORP skiing Beech Mtn. in North Carolina.  It was my first time skiing on the east coast and no, doesn't even compare to the snow, mountains, and talents of the west, but it was still a great weekend!

in honor of tibet

No, I didn't watch all of the Superbowl this year, but I did see this odd and not so great commercial.  The ad has caused controversy and personally, I don't know how it made it all the way to being aired during the Superbowl!?!
